Last weekend, I signed up for a trip with my university to go to Coconut Creek, FL and do volunteer work through the P.E.A.C.E club I'm in. I applied for the trip and was waiting for an answer, and finally I got a call saying they reviewed my application and I was going on the weekend trip. I was really excited and looking forward to it!! We were assigned to go on a bus with 12 other students and a co-ordinator from uni and drove up for 4 hours north, the same way to Miami! The first day we got there it was around 10 pm, everyone had dinner and went to sleep to get ready for the service we were going to do the next day. When we woke up, we drove up to SOS villages and we were supposed to rake all the leaves off of the village, and trust me it doesn't sound as easy as it seems, it took up up to 4-5 hours!! Then we had to wash all the windows of each house. In the SOS village houses, children that were abused or neglected by their parents were taking away and been put in these houses, and the company tries their best to get all the siblings to live and grow up together. After we were done with the service day, we went back to our accommodations, slept really early for the activity we were preparing for the children. On sunday, when we interacted with the children we decided on an activity called "Around The World", each table had a different animal from a different continent and we had to explain the animal's characteristics and then they had to find it on their own map and paste it on the given continent. Once they went all around the world, we practiced some African and European dances to teach the children. We all had such a great experience, it was such a different trip and got to meet some really nice people there. The kids were great and the overall trip was an amazing experience that cant be described, what you do for others, in the simplest form can make your whole week!! I cant wait for the next service trip :)!!
